"Clybourne Park" Scene Shift Timelapse
Winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2012 Tony for Best Play!
Clybourne Park is a fascinating, insightful, and often brutally funny look at the way we talk about—or avoid talking about—race in America. When a white couple wants to buy a home in the gentrifying, all-black neighborhood of Clybourne Park, Chicago, they unknowingly re-enact the same tense drama, fraught with miscommunications and barely suppressed hostility that occurred fifty years earlier in the same house.
These video is of the epic scene shift in Pioneer Theatre Company's production of "Clybourne Park" by Bruce Norris.
These video is built in true time-lapse fashion with a series of still frames taken at one-second intervals throughout the scene shift. using this technique we are able to compress a 12-minute shift into 2 minutes.
Why is this scene shift so impressive? "Clybourne Park" by Bruce Norris is a response/"sequel" to Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun." The first act of "Clybourne Park" takes place in 1959 in the ouse being purchased by the Younger family. In Act 2 we shift forward 50 years to 2009 where a family wants to demolish the house and build new. This scene shift takes a static set and moves it 50 years into the future! So, this video takes 50 years of aging, executed in 12 minutes, compressed into 2.
I came up with three versions of the video with different background music, I would love to know which you think is the best fit.
The videos in this gallery are of the scene shift from act 1 to act 2 of "Clybourne Park."
